Matthew House Ottawa is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Refugee Housing Canada, a home-sharing program that fosters inclusivity and support within our communities.

Refugee Housing Canada is a home-sharing rental program that connects hosts with refugees seeking immediate, temporary housing solutions. As part of the program, hosts can rent out spare bedrooms on a monthly basis, sharing kitchen and common spaces while receiving a monthly rental fee. Please note that this initiative is not designed for complete apartment or home rentals.

The primary goal of the program is to foster a supportive environment for refugees, helping them thrive on their journey toward a better life by linking them with compassionate hosts who are willing to open their homes and hearts.

Hosts commit to a minimum stay of 1 month, but we encourage stays of 3-6 months or longer. This allows refugees to get their foot in the door of the housing market and also obtain their first reference. Hosts are verified through a background check facilitated by Refugee Housing Canada and renters are interviewed by partnering refugee and newcomer organizations.

How you can help

Become a Host: Embrace the joy of hosting by providing a warm and secure home for refugees. Register as a host on the platform and begin the journey of making a difference in someone's life. Hosts have the option to get paid or donate the rent amount and receive a donation receipt.
Refer a Host: Do you know someone who has a spare room and might be interested in hosting a refugee? Tell them to join, and help us reach out to them. Together, we can create a network of caring hosts dedicated to welcoming newcomers.
Spread the Word: Help us expand our reach by sharing this program with your community, social networks, and local organizations. Together, we can empower more refugees and cultivate compassionate communities.
